The helping field has gradually begun to recognize that workers and families are profoundly affected by the work they do, whether it is by direct exposure to traumatic events, secondary exposure, witnessing people’s inability to improve their very difficult life circumstances or feeling helpless in the face of poverty and emotional anguish. These are all worth exploring along with acquiring tools to cope. During this interactive training participants will:
* Know the definitions of Secondary Traumatic Stress, Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout
*Identify the similarities and differences between the conditions.
*Review the signs in personal and professional lives
*Identify strategies for building resilience and reducing the effects of Secondary Traumatic Stress
*Participants will assess their own STS, learn self-care and early warning strategies and develop a action plan.
