OhioMHAS and The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities will host two trainings with support from Strong Families, Safe Communities. On March 4, Trauma Responsive Care: Safe, Connected and In Control will cover the causes of trauma and the factors that leave people with MH/DD more vulnerable to it. Discussions will include “Big T” and “Little t” traumas and how people with MH/DD may experience both more often than the general population. This training will include a practical exercise for self-grounding that participants can use in stressful situations. On March 11, The Foundation in Dual Diagnosis will discuss major diagnostic categories and how they differ in presentation with people with intellectual disabilities. The presenter will review diagnostic overshadowing and how it can impact perception of and support for people with dual diagnoses. This training will examine the “cultural” differences in the DD and mental health fields, and how to work effectively between the two systems. Questions? Please email Alaina Deighan at
