Adult Mental Health Services

The TBI Network at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) provides specialized outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The primary method of intervention is service coordination and advocacy to meet the multiple needs of clients. In addition, the TBI Network provides screening, assessment, treatment planning, educational and support groups and individual substance abuse counseling. To facilitate optimal outcomes for clients requiring the resources of multiple social service agencies, TBI Network case managers seek to develop “ad hoc” community treatment teams to bring together providers in a coordinated treatment approach.

The OSUWMC Harding Hospital provides crisis intervention services to youth ages 15-17. Adolescents receive specialized services and access to ongoing treatment after crisis stabilization.

Ohio State’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health recently opened eight observation rooms in the emergency department designed to stabilize patients in crisis with the goal of avoiding inpatient hospitalization. The Crisis Assessment Linkage and Management Program uses observation rooms designed like traditional psychiatric care rooms to remove patients from the over-stimulating emergency room.
