Drug overdose deaths drop in Franklin County to lowest level since pandemic

Overdose deaths in both Franklin County and nationwide decreased in 2023. Nationally, overdose deaths dropped by 3%, with 111,029 in 2022 and 107,543 in 2023, according to preliminary data released by the CDC. Franklin County's overdose deaths decreased from 731 deaths in 2022 to 701 deaths in 2023, according to the Ohio Department of Health. McKayla Elliott, state opioid response manager for the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County (ADAMH), spoke to The Columbus Dispatch about these trends, as well as appeared on WOSU Public Media's All Sides with Anna Staver to talk about prevention efforts to help the central Ohio community decrease overdose deaths across all populations.
